And here we have a trio of singletons from Butter London. I don't have a lot to say about these, but for good reasons: they're awesome! They look good, good formula, amazing color. If Butter wasn't so damned expensive, I'd buy a lot more! As it is, I mainly wait until there are sales of some kind and then buy hard.

Let's start with Bluey.

I generally buy Butter London from Ulta (online or in-store) or direct from Butter London. It retails for about $15 US, but they (or Ulta) have sales fairly often. This month, Ulta is doing its 21 Days of Beauty sale again and will have them on sale for $9 on March 15 (in-store) (though I think there's a limit of 2).

When I took off Nucleus, I decided to give another of the Chameleon polishes, Fandango, a try. Fandango is a blue/teal/green polish that mainly leans green. Sadly, it has the exact same problems as Nucleus: very sheer (which requires 4 coats to get fully opaque), prone to bubble, and slow to dry.

Unfortunately, I spaced on getting pictures of Fandango by itself, but the bubbling annoyed me sufficiently that I decided to cover it up and hide it behind an extreme dotticure (dotted manicure).

Victoriana (Butter) came in the same shipment as Dosh. I still think Butter is absurdly expensive, but they're really winning me around.

Like a queen. )

On this day, I knew I wanted to do another rainbow manicure like the one I did back in October, but I didn't want to duplicate the colors.

While musing what colors to use, I came up with the idea of doing the rainbow in neutral colors of black, white & gray.

I decided to go with a bold pink background: OPI Conquistadorable Color, from OPI's 2009 Espana collection.

Like something out of a science fiction movie. )

So this manicure did not photograph as well as I would like it to have...though, the photographs still look lovely, don't get me wrong. But the manicure was SO MUCH LOVELIER.

...and that takes us through December 6th.

This was mainly a lot of messing around. I acquired a few different green polishes and I was worried that I'd just bought the same polish in three different colors. Lucky for me, that turned out not to be the case.

First, we have my favorite of the three, Zoya Tracie:

Butter London Dosh is another from my wish list; I was very excited when Butter put it on sale for $10.

After swatching up those three, I didn't know what I wanted to do with myself, so I decided to try out OPI Swimsuit...Nailed it! from the 2011 Miss Universe collection.

In the interests of playing catch-up, a few different manicures.

1. Winter Wonderland

As in my previous post, I did a certain amount of experimenting with manicures that look WINTRY without looking like they're specifically holiday related. I saw a manicure similar to this one somewhere on the internet (sadly, I no longer remember where, and I don't think I saved it to pinterest) and decided to work up my own version.

2. Being Disciplined.

I have really fallen head over heels for gray polishes this year. They're such cool, interesting neutrals, easy to dress up or dress down, warm up or cool down, and they generally look great against my skin tone.

Cult Nails Disciplined is no exception.

I keep thinking of this as 'Afternoon Delight'. Heh. )

And then finally:

3. Zuza.

After I took off the Disicplined Charla combo, I was feeling very impatient, but I still wanted to give my new Zoyas a try, so I picked up Zuza.

I just like the way it sounds: ZOO-ZA. )

Ninja Polish: FAIL. )

Now. On the other hand, let's look at Butter London. Butter London: YAY! )

Where I want to give Ninja Polish a huge "FU!", I find myself thinking, "Well, $14 isn't SO terrible for good polish" regarding Butter London. And really, that's all it takes. It is only ENLIGHTENED SELF INTEREST for a company to have good customer service. As a result of Butter's good service, I spent quite a bit of money that now goes into their pocket. As a result of Ninja's, not only do I not ever want to shop with them again, I won't recommend them to anyone, I won't send any friend or acquaintance's business in their direction. It doesn't take much to shake or break a customer's faith and in this global, online marketplace, even small companies like Ninja Polish can't afford to lose buyers to their THICK competition.

I was really excited to get Contrary Polish Purple Smoke. It's a polish I'd seen on a number of different blogs, and all the screenshots made it look just gorgeous, a dark, smoky gray with beautiful shimmers of blue and purple.

You can see them here on Manicurator's blog. I've said before: I'm a sucker for a good gray polish.

Unfortunately, Purple Smoke didn't quite live up to the hype.

After a couple days of dark manicures, I knew I wanted something bright and bold on my nails today. I didn't really have a plan, I was just winging it.

I started with Lime Crime Pastelchio. Lime Crime is one of the larger indies ( They primarily sell cosmetics; from what I understand, this is their first collection of nail polish, Les Desserts d'Antoinette, but I'm very impressed with them so far.

The collection description: "7 pastel shades, inspired by confectionary delights from Marie Antoinette's table. Recklessly pigmented crème formula is rich, smooth and opaque in just two coats. Each bottle comes equipped with a flat, wide brush for superb control and flawless application. Never tested on animals. 3-Free."

I really do recommend the Lime Crime polishes in their entirety. The colors are lovely and bright, the formula is excellent (they're all 2 coat polishes, and not a dud in the collection).

Believe it or not, the idea for this manicure was The Husband's idea.

I wasn't sure what I wanted to do for my final manicure. On the one hand, it was the last one, so you feel like you should do something big and fancy and showy...on the other hand, I feel like half the time that just sets up an enormous amount of pressure and subsequent guilt if you can't attain that level of showiness and brilliance and it's often as good or better to do something really simple really well.

I don't KNOW that I did something really simple really well, but I love the hell out of this very simple, super cute manicure.

I am done with my graceless heart/So tonight I'm going to cut it out and then restart... )

This is an extremely simple manicure that was, even so, REALLY STUNNING for relatively little effort. It wasn't a riff off any other manicure I've seen; it was just a random idea that came to me.

Though surrounded by darkness, I will still burn bright... )

Continuing my thought from last night... I've been kvetching about being restricted to one color all month (by my choice!), but it is true that having a limited palette and limited shades within that color has forced me to be more creative, in terms of coming up with this many manicures that are all the same color but still distinct from each other. I don't know if I'll ever do a project like this again, but it's been a wonderful stretch.
